Weaving Classes
Instructor: Elia Woods

Tuesdays, 7-9pm OR Thursdays, 10 am to 12 noon
Class Fee: $104 Beginners (includes all supplies) / $96 Intermediate Students

City Arts Center's weaving classes are held in our beautiful 1,000 square foot weaving studio. During the eight week session, beginning students weave a sample project on a table loom, learning how to warp a loom, create different weave structures, and finish edges. Intermediate students choose their own project and yarn with the help of the instructor. Popular projects include scarves, shawls, table linens, kitchen towels, rugs, tote bags and baby blankets. Our weaving studio houses a broad collection of handweaving magazines and books to help students in project selection.

We have 17 floor looms, offering students the choice of weaving on 4 or 8 harness, jack, countermarche or counterbalance looms, in 22" to 60" widths. In addition, we offer interested students the opportunity to pursue projects on inkle, tapestry or rigid heddle looms.

Our students' work was recently featured in an exhibit at the Midwest City library.

Summer Session I - 6 weeks
May 21 - June 30, 2007

Summer Session II - 8 weeks
July 9 - September 1, 2007

We also offer a week-long fiber arts camp each summer as part of our children's summer programming. During this camp, 8-13 year olds learn about spinning and natural dyeing, and weave their own inkle loom shoelaces, pocketbags on cardboard looms, and small, colorful rugs on floor looms.
